CALM-A-MILE
Fractionated Coconut Oil, German Chamomile (Matricaria recutita), Roman Chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile), Blue Cypress (Callitris intratropica), Frankincense (Boswellia carterii), Clary Sage (Salvea sclarea), Ylang Ylang (Cananga odorata)
CATS: The best way to use Calm-a-Mile RTU with cats is to place 1-2 drops into your hands, rub them together and then just hold or pet your cat. For most cats, they prefer that there be a very light film on your hands, to almost no film at all. All you have to do is smell your cat after you pet them, to know that even with the oils completely absorbed into your hands – you are still getting quite a bit of essential oil on them. Cats are groomers of course, and while licking themselves, will certainly ingest some of the essential oil that has been “Pet” onto them. This is completely fine, and often a beneficial way to have cats ingest essential oils for health reasons.
When a cat is going to be transported in a kennel for a car ride or other stressful event – you can also “Pet” the Calm-a-Mile RTU onto bedding, blankets, or even drip some onto a cotton ball (100% cotton please) – and place it near the cat or into the kennel with your kitty.
DOGS: They do very well with Calm-a-Mile RTU – and although you should always start out with small amounts of oil, you may find that your dog “desires” additional applications as well as may want to lick it right up out of your hand. 2-10 drops is generally used at each application site, and many dogs will have several locations massaged or applied to. This blend works very well as a massage oil, and for massage therapists, it is likely to become one of their favorite items to use. Just coat your hands lightly, and perform massage or reflexology as usual. You will find a greatly enhanced effect to any body work – chiropractic, massage, reflexology, acupressure, and even petting over acupuncture sites prior to “needling” is greatly effective. We have also found that Calm-a-Mile RTU is greatly calming to skin irritations, insect bites, muscle strains, and more! I generally dip my finger into a bit of the blend, and then dab it onto the area in question. This amazing blend certainly has more benefits to show us, and we are amazed every day with some of our “accidental discoveries”!
Situations where dogs especially benefit from Calm-a-Mile RTU is prior to any stressful event (nail trims, veterinary visits, car rides…), to enhance training and obedience skills, prior to therapy dog work (the humans benefit from it too!), prior to competitions, or for any situation where a calm and balanced attitude is desired. Calm-a-Mile is also the ideal blend for newly adopted dogs, puppies leaving their moms, foster dogs, introduction to new dogs (pet onto all dogs), crate training, and anxiety issues.
kittyboost
Fractionated Coconut Oil, Essential Oils of Frankincense (Boswellia carterii), Copaiba (Copaifera officinalis), Helichrysum (H. italicum), Oregano (Oreganum vulgare), Thyme (Thymus vulgaris), Basil (Ocimum basilicum), Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), Marjoram (Origanum majorana), Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), Peppermint (Mentha piperita), Catnip (Nepeta cataria), Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha), Citronella (Cymbopogon nardus), Melissa (Melissa officinalis)
CATS: The quintessential essential oil application for cats! Not only is it effective, but cats love it. This veterinary formulation carries years of clinical safety data, blood monitoring, and case studies. KittyBoost Lite is also available.
For general health and well being, apply to cats at least monthly. However, as part of a flea and tick prevention or treatment or with illness situations, you may apply daily, and in some cases twice a day! Usually every 3-7 days, is adequate for most conditions that require more than just health maintenance.
* See below for all the benefits in KittyBoost.
BOOST IN A BOTTLE
Fractionated Coconut Oil, Essential Oils of Peppermint (Mentha piperita), Copaiba (Copaifera officinalis), Balsam Fir (Abies balsamea), Marjoram (Origanum majorana), Basil (Ocimum basilicum), Myrtle (Myrtus communis), Nutmeg (Myristica fragrans), Tangerine (Citrus tangerina), Black Spruce (Picea mariana), Oregano (Oreganum vulgare), Thyme (Thymus vulgaris), Ginger (Zingiber officinalis), Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), Frankincense (Boswellia carterii), Helichrysum (H. italicum), Melissa (Melissa officinalis), Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), Anise (Pimpinella anisum), Juniper (Juniperus communis), Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha), Tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus), Blue Cypress (Callitris intratropica), Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin)
This is a perfect blend for DOGS - of all sizes - for general health support. And also for other large animals.
How much? For larger dogs – you can usually apply more drops. For dogs between 25-50 pounds applying 5-8 drops is average. And for dogs over 50 pounds – a range of 6-12 drops can be used.
How to apply – basically just drip the oils up the back and massage in, or you may apply the drops to your hands and then apply them to your dog in a petting manner.
How often? For general maintenance and support of health – a monthly application may be all that is needed. For additional support during “buggy” seasons or during times of additional physical stress (vaccinations, surgery, boarding…) weekly applications may be necessary. And of course, when indicated, even daily applications can be considered. I encourage you to work with your veterinarian closely, for situations that are more intense or critical – to help you evaluate your spacing of applications.
With most dogs both Boost in a Bottle formulas can be applied as often as needed, but with the intent that the frequency of application (how often it is applied) is adjusted for the individual animal. This means, we will usually apply Boost in a Bottle once, then wait and evaluate the animal for a response – as well as for how long the response lasts. If an animal who is experiencing discomfort in the joints, for example, experiences three days of comfort after a Boost in a Bottle application – then applying every three days is a perfect idea!
Also for dogs new to essential oils – you may want to start with the lower recommended amounts of drops, or even less than the recommended amounts. This is a helpful way to ensure you do not create an oil aversion. You may not see results with lesser amounts, but since we are also wanting to create a “happy” situation with oil use for your dog, and not overwhelm them – the added time to slowly build up concentrations of essential oil use can be worth it. You should always strive to build up the recommended application amounts however, unless your dog is experiencing perfect results with less. Many times we hear reports of essential oils “not working” – when the dosage has just really never been effectively reached.
Any-Itis RTU
Essential Oils of Copaiba (Copaiba officinalis), Helichrysum (H. italicum), Peppermint (Mentha piperita) diluted with Fractionated Coconut Oil (carrier oil)
A pre-diluted blend designed to support the symptoms associated with inflammation. An amazing blend expertly mixed and diluted to be accepted in foods. Ideal for animals under 35 pounds. Any-Itis RTU contains the same great oils as Any-Itis NEAT, however properly diluted, is much less intense in taste, and is a great alternative for finicky animals or smaller animals.
DOGS: The preferred method for dogs is to add to food twice a day. For dogs smaller than 35 pounds – or for those who are particularly sensitive to smells, oils, or flavors – Any-Itis RTU is often perfect! However, we still found some dogs were not fond of any taste within their foods. So Any-Itis LITE is also available. When adding Any-Itis RTU to foods, keep in mind that some dogs may not be fond of the taste.
For every 10 pounds of body weight, 1-3 drops of Any-Itis RTU can be added to foods (we recommend softened and wet foods) and fed twice a day. Start with small amounts, and gradually build up to the desired amount. Long term use can be utilized when needed – and many dogs have been utilizing this blend twice a day for years. The ideal route is ingestion.
Any-Itis RTU can also be used with massage or Petting Techniques over areas of discomfort – however I do prefer New Mobility RTU when topical application is desired. Just place several drops (3-5 or more is fine) into your hands, rub them together lightly to distribute oils over your hands, and pet over the area of concern. This can be repeated as needed, usually 1-3 times a day, depending on need. When needed, both oral administration and topical administration can be used. Any-Itis RTU is safe to be given with other medications, anti-inflammatories, and joint supplements.
CATS: Although Any-Itis RTU “could” be used with cats, all of the oils that are within Any-Itis are contained within the KittyBoost – and cats enjoy the application of the KittyBoost so much more – we recommend using it instead.
Any-Itis NEAT
Essential Oils of Copaiba (Copaiba officinalis), Helichrysum (H. italicum), Peppermint (Mentha piperita)
For larger dogs, horses, and large animals. NEAT refers to the fact that this blend is created from non-diluted essential oils. So, there is no carrier oil (Fractionated Coconut Oil) within this blend. With this fact in mind, this is a stronger essential oil blend, more appropriate for use with dogs, horses, and most “larger” animals. Although a Any-Itis NEAT can be diffused, it is not generally used for this application.
The ingredients in Any-Itis, including Copaiba Essential Oil, have been a part of many protocols at the Crow River Animal Hospital veterinary practice to help support achy joints and muscles and to enhance the body’s natural healing process. Combining Copaiba with the amazing oils of Helichrysum and Peppermint – Any-Itis NEAT delivers amazing support for many conditions in animals. The usage of Any-Itis NEAT has supported patients towards avoiding the use of chronic medications.
* For cats, birds, exotics, and smaller animals RTU (Ready To Use) and LITE blends are more appropriate to use.
NEW MOBILITY RTU
Fractionated Coconut Oil, Essential Oils of Spruce (Picea mariana), Copaiba (Copaifera officinalis), Lavender (Lavendula angustifolia), Marjoram (Origanum majorana), Peppermint (Mentha piperita), Helichrysum (H. italicum), Balsam Fir (Abies balsamea), Lemongrass (Cymbopogon flexuosus), Frankincense (Boswellia carterii), Basil (Ocimum basilicum), Blue Cypress (Callitris intratropica)
DOGS: This blend was created specifically with dogs in mind. To use when topical application is desired. When musculoskeletal concerns are present (ie older arthritic animals) – Dr Melissa Shelton will often layer the use of New Mobility RTU topically, with Any-Itis orally. If one or the other product is adequate to maintain comfort and activity for the animal, then we can use just that one. However, when we need something “more” – it is nice to layer the various products together for added support. Which product you select to try first, can often be determined by your animal’s personality. If adding an item like Any-Itis to food seems to be an easier option for your household – then start there. If your animal is “beyond picky” with foods – then starting with topical applications may seem more appropriate. And, for those animals who are experiencing larger amounts of discomfort or decreased activity, you may decide to start with the use of both products right away.
Apply New Mobility RTU with petting techniques. Place 1-10 drops into your hands, rub them together and massage into the locations of need. This oil blend can be applied up to 3 times a day, or as needed. There is no need to part fur during applications. Normal grooming or licking and ingestion of New Mobility is fine – although the blend is not intended to be given orally.
Evict RTU
Fractionated Coconut Oil, Essential Oils of Cedarwood (Juniperus mexicana), Catnip (Nepeta cataria), Eucalyptus citriodora, Geranium (Pelargonium graveolens), Rosemary-Cineole (Rosmarinus officinalis), Oregano (Origanum vulgare)
A perfectly diluted version of Evict – it is Ready To Use for all of your buggy needs. An amazing anti-bug, anti-odor, and animal-safe blend. Also great for people.
DOGS: For use directly on a dog – place between 4-10 drops of Evict RTU Drops into your hands – rub them together to distribute a film of oil, and then pet your dogs coat. For insect repellent; rubbing down the legs, neck, shoulders, and back are good locations to concentrate on. You can also pay special attention to ear tips or the rear end where insects often attack most. You can repeat these applications to each region you need to apply to. Put more drops into your hands, rub them around, then massage into your dog’s coat.
TRANSITION
Essential Oils of Frankincense (Boswellia carterii), Cabreuva (Myrocarpus fastigiatus), Blue Cypress (Callitris intratropica), Rose (Rosa damascena), Vetiver (Vetiveria zizanioides), Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin)
This blend is an incredible support to all changes. Transition can mean a lot of things to our animal friends. Entering into this world by birth or exiting this realm forever are obviously the most dramatic transitions that our companions experience, as well as ourselves being alongside of them. However joining a new home, losing a human or animal companion, being rescued, undergoing a surgery, leaving a litter, and more can all be considerable transition periods for an animal. This blend is a powerful connection for all things spiritual, emotional, and energetic. It can aid greatly with grieving, emotional concerns, and support of life-force.
For All Animals: Diffusion in a water-based diffuser is wonderful way to use Transition. Adding approximately 1 drop per 100mL of water in a diffuser is a suggested starting point, although some may desire it stronger. Alternatively, adding 4-10 drops to a 4 ounce water misting bottle, shaking well before spraying, and spritzing into the air is very effective. This spritz can also be misted onto bedding, into kennels, or wherever needed for more results.
CAN BE USED FOR DIFFUSION OR SPRAY BOTTLE OR PETTING - contains no carrier oil.
CATS: Very light petting techniques can also be used – placing 1 to 2 drops into your hands, rubbing them together until the essential oil is completely absorbed, then petting your cat. Petting over the heart area is a very beneficial location. For some cats, allowing a very light film of oil to remain on your hands before petting can be appropriate. There is no concern when the cat grooms afterwards.
Euthanasia of a cat: Diffuse Transition in a water-based diffuser as soon as you know the situation is approaching. Pet the cat with Transition absorbed into your hands 1-2 days prior to the euthanasia. Also pet other animals, and apply to human family members as needed.
INTRODUCTIONS of a new horse, dog, or other animal to a herd, pack, or household: Diffuse Transition and pet onto all animals involved in the new introduction as directed for their species.
ADOPTING a new puppy: When a pup has to leave its mother and litter mates, it can be quite a transition. Using a water spritzer to mist bedding, kennels/crates, and the air around the pup can be helpful. Water-based diffusion is wonderful. Petting Transition onto the puppy can also be very helpful, as well as the humans wearing the blend. When possible, if diffusion can start while the pup is still with the mother and litter mates – and then continue onward with the new home – results can be impressive! Smooth Delivery is another blend you may wish to consider for young animals and their “transitions”.
FOR TRAUMA: Dealing with traumatic events, fostering, or adopting rescue animals: The basics of “just using” the blend is the most important factor here. If you are volunteering at a shelter, working in a natural disaster area, or fostering an animal – wear Transition so that you can be a “human diffuser” and benefit those who you are near. Diffuse the blend, spritz it into the air, or pet onto animals that you have authorization to use oils on.
DOG BREATH
Fractionated Coconut Oil, Essential Oils of Copaiba (Copaifera officinalis), Peppermint (Mentha piperita), Helichrysum (H. italicum), Myrrh (Comminphora myrrha)
RUBBED ONTO TEETH AND GUMS: When rubbed onto teeth and gums up to daily to twice a day, owners often report a reduction in gingivitis and inflammation – and breath often improves.
Dog Breath and Dog Breath LITE can be incredibly helpful towards contributing to reversal of dental disease, especially with regular use after a cleaning. Using Dog Breath (or Dog Breath LITE) directly onto a doggy toothbrush is an extra added benefit from just rubbing the solution on with your finger too!
ADD TO COCONUT OIL: Raw Coconut Oil (the kind that becomes solid at lower room temperatures) – is not only full of health benefits but animals tend to love it! Although Dog Breath and Dog Breath LITE already contain Fractionated Coconut Oil (this is so that it does not become solid), adding a few drops to the thick and “solid” version of Coconut Oil can make dogs (and some cats) extremely happy and willing to lick it right up. Rubbing onto the gums and teeth can be very easy when the animal sees it as a tasty treat. The raw coconut oil will also enhance the Dog Breath benefits with its own anti-inflammatory and health wielding benefits! For the most part, when I select to add oils into coconut oil – I will select the original Dog Breath formula – as I will be diluting the essential oil significantly within the Raw Coconut Oil. However, either formula is just fine to use!
ADD TO TOOTHPASTE: One easy recipe reported to be well accepted by dogs is a simple 1 part Raw Coconut Oil and 1 part Baking Soda mixed together. For this household – 1 Tablespoon of each was mixed with 15 drops of the original Dog Breath. For super picky or sensitive animals – you could start with less drops, and gradually work up to larger amounts or use the Dog Breath LITE formula instead. Some animals may indeed need more essential oils added to be effective. The recipes are never set in stone – and so you can also experiment with less Baking Soda, etc…
BENEFITS :: KITTYBOOST
Fractionated Coconut Oil, Essential Oils of Frankincense (Boswellia carterii), Copaiba (Copaifera officinalis), Helichrysum (H. italicum), Oregano (Oreganum vulgare), Thyme (Thymus vulgaris), Basil (Ocimum basilicum), Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), Marjoram (Origanum majorana), Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), Peppermint (Mentha piperita), Catnip (Nepeta cataria), Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare), Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha), Citronella (Cymbopogon nardus), Melissa (Melissa officinalis)
Frankincense is heavily researched for anti-cancer activity but is also indicated for all forms of cancer, tumors, cysts, behavioral conditions, depression, brain disorders, seizures, immune system stimulation and regulation, autoimmune disorders, DNA repair, and more. Frankincense is also considered a “life force” oil and has been used extensively in critical cases in our veterinary hospital. Frankincense also seems to be what we refer to as a “magnifying” oil – which means that is appears to magnify and enhance the effects of other essential oils when they are used concurrently.
Copaiba is incredibly anti-inflammatory – and inflammation is present in all situations of illness. By eliminating chronic inflammation, healing of the body can take place, as well as the stress of that inflammation can be removed. Stress depresses the immune system, as well as results in delayed healing – not only from illness, but form surgical procedures and injury. Copaiba is commonly used for all sorts of urinary conditions, and is especially helpful for the urinary issues that are unfortunately common to see in cats. FLUTD, Cystitis, and the severe inflammation associated with urinary blockage and drainage are greatly benefited by the proper use of Copaiba with cats. Copaiba is often used as a replacement of NSAID’s (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs), for prevention and treatment of gastric ulcers, for arthritis, skin conditions, and all sorts of pain in our veterinary practice. Copaiba also tends to magnify the effects of other oils and natural remedies as a regular course of action, and I believe the main pathway for this action is its elimination of associated inflammation, so that the remedy being used can do its proper job. KittyBoost LITE contains both Steam Distilled and Oleoresin versions of Copaiba.
Helichrysum is truly a miraculous oil, and is worthy of use in almost every condition. Helichrysum is indicated in cases of blood clots (Saddle Thrombus) as an anticoagulant, but is also used in cases of hemorrhage, bleeding, and bruising. This is the interesting thing with many natural remedies, is that they tend to bring the body to a point of homeostasis. Whatever is needed within the body, appears to be honored. Helichrysum is especially indicated for nerve regeneration and neurologic conditions, hearing impairment, circulatory and blood vessel disorders, heart disease, blood clots, liver disease, hypertension, chelation of chemicals, toxin exposure, poisoning, vaccination detoxification, healing of lacerations and wounds, for control of pain, and as a topical anesthetic. There is not much that Helichrysum does not contribute to, and it falls into a category of “must have” oils in my opinion.
Oregano has properties which include anti-aging, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, anti-inflammatory, and immune stimulation. Even alone, this oil is amazing. Then we add in the Thyme properties of anti-aging, anti-fungal, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-oxidant, and immune support for even more benefits. These are “hot oils”, high in phenols, and must be used properly in cats. Although these oils may carry more concern for some to see in a product for cats, rest assured, that I have used these formulas with thousands of cats, and even have documented blood work safety data for over 3 years on a cat who is getting an application of these oils TWICE A DAY! These oils are an amazing part of the KittyBoost when used in proper dilution.
Basil is widely used for anti-histamine type properties in our veterinary practice. Although there have been some cautionary statements in regards to Basil with individuals who seizure or have epilepsy, we have not found this to be an issue when used properly. The KittyBoost has been a hallmark treatment for many of our patients, especially those with seizures, and although we monitor all animals closely for any sort of adverse response to oils (no matter what the oil is) – in practice we have seen many more benefits than reasons to avoid the use of Basil. Basil also carries with it benefits of being anti-spasmodic, anti-inflammatory, promoting circulation and decongestion of blood flow, antiviral, and anti-infectious. It has also been indicated to be helpful with liver and pancreatic concerns, encephalitis, arthritis, and so much more.
Cypress is mainly used to increase circulation, and aids in every condition with this quality. After all, almost every function in the body relies on proper circulation to work properly. Resorption of bruises, improvement of circulation, and circulatory disorders are primary attributes of this oil.
Marjoram is well known as one of the “muscle” essential oils, but it is also indicated for body and joint discomfort, arthritis, respiratory conditions (expectorant and mucolytic), ringworm, muscle spasms, muscle conditions, increasing motility of the gastrointestinal tract (promotes intestinal peristalsis), fluid retention, lowering blood pressure, vasodilation, circulatory disorders, and nerve pain. Marjoram carries effects for menstrual problems and PMS in humans, which appears to carry over into hormonal issues in animals as well. Marjoram is an important part of Hormone Blend.
Lavender is also well known for use with muscular issues, however, Lavender is an oil that is a veritable “Jack of all trades.” Unfortunately, Lavender is also one of the most adulterated and synthetically altered essential oils on the market today. Very few available Lavender oils are pure enough to be called veterinary grade, or qualify for use in animals. We source our Lavender from a grower/distiller that I personally know, and the wonderful qualities of this particular source of oil, is exceptionally suited for use in animals. We are very fortunate to have continued and excellent access to this limited commodity of high quality oil. Lavender is especially indicated for skin conditions, ringworm and other fungal infections, for muscular concerns, for calming effects, for burns and frostbite, high blood pressure, cardiac issues, insomnia, and more.
Peppermint is not typically an oil that we think of first with cats, however it is actually related to Catnip (both in the mint family) – and we hear reports repeatedly of cats licking it off of their owners (after it is absorbed fully into their skin) or rubbing up against an application site! When used properly in cats, Peppermint is highly beneficial and not overwhelming to their system. Peppermint is often used as a “driving oil”, which means that it appears to enhance the penetration of other oils. Peppermint’s medical properties include anti-inflammatory, anti-tumoral, anti-parasitic for worms, antibacterial, antiviral, anti-fungal, gall bladder and digestive stimulation, pain relief, and appetite suppression (although we also find that it’s anti-nausea effects can help cats who are also not eating). It is indicated for conditions such as arthritis, obesity, Herpes infections, papilloma (warts), candida, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and colic.
Catnip oil is a relative newcomer to the scene of essential oils for animals. I have been “dabbling” with it for several years, as much of the research associated with it, considers it to be a more effective insect repellent than DEET. And, of course we know that cats and catnip have a long “romance” if you will. Catnip oil as an undiluted or neat oil – is actually quite repulsive. It is intensely strong, and must be diluted for proper use (or if you want other humans to want to be near you!) Since cats need routine help with flea prevention, treatment and prevention of ear mites, and even repelling of ticks – Catnip oil has become a fun introduction to our veterinary line up. Not only do cats love it for the “happy feelings” that it brings, but the anti-bug properties are showing amazing promise.
Fennel carries with it benefits for diabetes, blood sugar balancing, urinary tract infections, stimulation of milk production, as well for intestinal parasites and gastrointestinal concerns.
Myrrh is often referred to as a “Mother Oil” it is that important. Its medical properties make it well indicated for use in diabetes, cancer, hepatitis, fungal infections, tooth and gum infections, skin conditions, and as an analgesic. Myrrh is also supportive for many endocrine and hormonal conditions including support of the Thyroid, growth hormone production, pituitary gland function, and hypothalamus function. Since many cats are prone to Hyperthyroidism, Myrrh is an important inclusion in the KittyBoost. We also have used Myrrh for pain management in many animals. When Myrrh is combined with Copaiba and Helichrysum in an oral form (remember, cats are going to be grooming too!) – we have very effective results. These small amounts and diluted ratios within the KittyBoost, are perfect for cats!
Citronella is also included in the KittyBoost for its safe and documented use for insect repellent properties in humans and animals. It is widely used for ear mites, mange, fleas, and ticks.
Melissa essential oil is one of my favorites for cats, and falls into a “must-have” category of oils for me. Although being quite an expensive oil, not many people were able to afford routine access to it, even when it would make critical differences in their animals’ health. Melissa is a powerful oil with a very high vibrational energy. Melissa is incredibly anti-viral, and is especially indicated with Herpes Viruses. Melissa also has very high anti-histamine type actions. Melissa is used for many conditions including depression, anxiety, viral infections, pruitis (itching), hives, seizures, as a replacement for anti-histamines, anaphylaxis, nausea, indigestion, liver and gall bladder concerns, and even cardiac issues.
